UPDATE: JULY 31 — The Orioles have agreed to send Miley to the Baltimore Orioles, pending medicals. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that LHP Ariel Miranda is the expected return to the Mariners. Miranda has made one appearance for the Orioles in 2016, and is 4-7 with a 3.93 ERA in 19 Triple-A starts.
The Baltimore Orioles are taking a hard look at Seattle Mariners lefty Wade Miley, sources said.
Baltimore has been seeking a starter, especially a left-handed one, for weeks, as it tries to hold on in the tough AL is afternoon with a loss at Toronto.
The Mariners are talking to a few teams about Miley, who is clearly being dangled as the Mariners have decided to hold onto coveted kids Taijuan Walker and James Paxton, as GM Jerry Dipoto said.
There aren’t a plethora of lefties on the market, but it’s possible the Tampa Bay Rays could deal Matt Moore (though hardly a given) and the Los Angeles Angels might talk about Hector Santiago. The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Jon Niese may be traded, as well. The Oakland Athletics could still move Rich Hill despite his current DL stint.
Miley helped Seattle’s cause by throwing a gem at Wrigley Saturday afternoon. He held the Chicago Cubs hitless through the first six innings.
On the year, Miley is 7-8 with a 4.98 ERA. In four July starts, Miley has a 4.07 ERA, but he did strike out nine Cubs on Saturday.
