Danny Salazar gets the Call
You remember Danny Salazar, don’t you? Salazar was the 10-start wonder for the Cleveland Indians last year, the strikeout machine, that had fantasy baseball players circling his name on draft boards all preseason as a “sleeper” pick. It didn’t take long before everyone was eyes-wide-open awake on the Indians’ right-hander.
Eight starts into the 2014 season, fantasy owners and the Cleveland Indians didn’t like what they saw.
Salazar was still racking up strikeouts–10.4/K9–but other teams were racking up runs. His 5.53 ERA to start the season merited a demotion to Triple-A.
He’s been down there for a while now and hasn’t been a whole lot better. His ERA in Triple-A was down to 4.02, but his WHIP wasn’t much better (1.52) compared to his Major-League number (1.62).
Don’t be afraid to go back after Danny Salazar. Odds are, you invested a higher draft pick than you wanted to this year, and maybe you aren’t ready to take him back. But he has a favorable matchup tonight against the Twins, and he’s always going to provide strikeouts.
Looking for some fantasy baseball depth or help this week? Go grab Danny Salazar and enjoy him tonight and the rest of the season as odds are he sticks in the rotation with Justin Masterson on the DL. Just don’t expect it to be all smooth.
